TDAH et stress chez l’enfant : faut-il forcément passer par des médicaments ?

ADHD and stress in children: is medication necessary?

May 20, 2025June Laboratoire

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects approximately 5% of children in France. It manifests itself through persistent inattention, marked impulsiveness, and sometimes physical agitation that is difficult to control. These symptoms have significant repercussions on the child's academic, social, and emotional life.

When a diagnosis is made, families often face a difficult question: should they resort to medication? While medication is sometimes necessary, it is not the only solution. Today, there are natural alternatives that can relieve certain symptoms, including stress and difficulty concentrating.

Medications and ADHD: Real effects, but not without drawbacks

The most commonly prescribed medications are psychostimulants such as methylphenidate (Ritalin®). These treatments can improve attention and reduce hyperactivity. But their effectiveness is not universal, and they do not address the underlying causes of the disorder , which are multiple: genetic, environmental, nutritional factors, etc.

Additionally, many parents are concerned about common side effects :

  • sleep disorders,

  • loss of appetite,

  • irritability,

  • and in some cases, a feeling of dependence or depersonalization.

This observation is pushing more and more families to explore other, gentler, and often complementary solutions .

Chronic stress, an often underestimated aggravating factor

In children with ADHD, emotional stress is omnipresent. The child perceives very early on that he "doesn't fit in": he moves too much, forgets his things, has difficulty following instructions... The result: repeated comments from adults, tensions with classmates, lowered self-esteem.

This constant stress creates an inflammatory environment in the brain , which worsens attention deficits, disrupts sleep, and reinforces impulsive behaviors. This is why calming the emotional environment and reducing the mental load is a central strategy in managing ADHD.

Are there any natural alternatives?

Today, it is possible to act differently. Several scientific studies have shown the positive impact of certain nutrients on children's behavior and cognitive functions.

Among the most promising:

  • Magnesium , recognized for its role in stress management and neuromuscular relaxation.

  • DHA , an omega-3 essential for healthy brain development and attention modulation.

  • Saffron , used for its calming and anti-anxiety properties.

  • Zinc and vitamin B6 , which support neurotransmission and emotional balance.

👉 It is on this basis that we have developed the Relaxing Gummies for Children ADHD - Calmer from Junelab® . Formulated from natural ingredients and tested by health professionals, these gummies aim to soothe children prone to stress, agitation or concentration problems , whether they are diagnosed with ADHD or not.

What strategy should you adopt to support your child?

There is no single answer or miracle solution. In some cases, medication is necessary and should be taken with confidence. But in many situations, a comprehensive approach can yield excellent results:

  • establishment of a reassuring and structuring framework ,

  • school adaptations and caring teaching,

  • relaxation techniques , regular sports activities,

  • and targeted nutritional supplements can improve the child's overall well-being.

For parents looking for a gentle, non-habit forming solution, Junelab® Relaxing Gummies for Children with ADHD - Calm can be a first step towards natural calming, without medication, and under the supervision of a healthcare professional if necessary.
